Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

In Uglyville, turning sixteen means transforming from a horrific ugly to a beautiful pretty and moving into New Pretty Town, a paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. Everyone has to go through with this operation and Tally Youngblood surely isn't an exception.

Just a few weeks before her sixteenth birthday, Tally meets a strange new friend, Shay. Shay's different, however, she'd rather risk life staying ugly than becoming just like the others. She tells Tally about a strange new city that Tally's never even heard of: Smoke City.

When Shay runs away, Tally is given an option that could possibly change her life forever: turn her new-found friend in or stay ugly forever.

On her journey to destiny, Tally finds out that not only does the operation change your appearance, it also messes with your personality, transforming who you are inside. In this spellbinding novel, Tally has to learn the hard way that beauty comes with a price and maybe, just perhaps, the pretty world can get pretty darn ugly.

Personally, I thought "Uglies" was an amazing novel!

It was basically every genre you could possibly imagine packed in one book: there was romance, adventure, and definitely mystery.

The character build-up was really clear and the author particularly focused on how Tally changes through the novel, and it was incredibly interesting to read.

If you're looking for just a fun read, I highly recommend reading the enthralling "Uglies" series! (:
