Personally, I thought "Uglies" was an amazing novel!
It was basically every genre you could possibly imagine packed in one book: there was romance, adventure, and definitely mystery.
The character build-up was really clear and the author particularly focused on how Tally changes through the novel, and it was incredibly interesting to read.
If you're looking for just a fun read, I highly recommend reading the enthralling "Uglies" series! (:
