This is a book that i had a very fun time reading about, this book is a book recommended to me by my friend Hieu, This book is called "What My Girlfriend Doesn't know". When Heiu gave me this book and said "read it!" i thought to myself "why? its some dumb stupid girly romantic book" but really it was pretty interesting. The Plot is about this very unpopular boy called Murphy who goes to high school and he has a girlfriend who is very popular called Sophie. They really love each other but Murphy thinks that they should not be together because everybody used to pick on him and now they are picking on his girlfriend and he thinks she doesn't deserve that. In this mystery novella, the story is narrated by a high school boy, who meets a Gothic girl, Anne Cayne. The narrator goes on a search for Anne with all the clues left in the mixtapes she made, the shortwave radio channels, ...

Shiva's Fire

Shiva’s Fire is written by Suzanne Fisher Staples. It is 216 pages long and counted as 1 book.

This book is about a young girl who has natural powers which turns out to be dancing, a rare talent. The great master of Indian classical dance sees this and invites her in Madras for training. Can Parvati reach her destiny? Find out.

I like this book because it feels like going back to my home country, looking back to the traditions and the different cultures. It teaches me many understandings with a life of a young child growing with an extreme talent. The characters in the book are described quite effectively and many of the obstacles that daily street people go through are also shown.
I would recommend this book to others and rate it 8.5/10

Holes - Louis Sachar

Stanley Yelnats was born in an unlucky family and it has been cursed for generations. When Stanley got stuck with a crime that didn't do, he wasn't so surprised. In court, the judge gave him a choice, Camp Green Lake or Jail. He'll defenitely choose Camp because he had never been to a camp before. However, what he never expect is that he will have to dig a hole a day. Each hole had to be five feet deep, five feet across in a dried up lake under the burning sun. The judge and everyone else thought that digging holes is character building. Days by days digging, Stanley was sure that they came here to dig was not for charcter building, it was for something else. So Stanley decided to dig that up, he wants the truth.

......................................................................................................................................................

I like this book and I would recommened to others. In the middle of the book, there's a flash back of Stanley's great-great- grandfather and how he got the cursed which past on for generations. Also each chapter in this book is quite short so these help the book less boring.

Mwah mwah - Chloe Rayban

In this teenage book, Hannah is forced to go to France during the summer. Hannah will have to stay with her mom's best friend along with her daughter. Matthilde, who is around Hannah's age. This would be the last thing Hannah would want, since French people, to her are "posey and fake".
But along the trip, Michel, Matthilde's friend, comes to stay with them, which causes things to happen...

I don't really like the book, as it's quite boring, predictable, and it's quite too girly.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville

At the start of the reading challenge I read this book, Moby Dick by Herman Melville, and I find that it is a very interesting and good book to read.

Moby Dick is about a crew of sailors on a whaling ship led by a determined Captain Ahab, who is willing to risk everybody's life so that he could hunt the legendary White Whale, or Moby Dick, a dangerous and vicious creature and it loves to eat meat.

The crew sail around the world, the Cape of Horn, Cape of Good Hope and Japan and eventually they have to face Moby Dick. This book is not only about the crew's adventure but also about how their relationship began to grow. The tools and weapons of the whaling industry in the 19th century are vividly described and analysed in this amazing book.

Apart from these details, the characters are also very special and interesting. The narrator, Ismael, a man who is bored with his life on land, is willing to risk his life for an adventure in the deep oceans of the world. The story mainly bases around Captain Ahab, the captain of the whaling ship and crew, as he is very experienced and extremely determined to capture the White Whale. This is because his past crew was destroyed by this vicious whale. At first, he is a very cold, unforgiving man but as the adventure progresses, he becomes warmer and warmer and shares his adventures with the crew.

In conclusion, I think this is the best book about whaling as it describes the adventure very well. Apart from that, this is one of the best book I have ever read as it captures my mind and makes me feel that I am actually in an adventure.

I would recommend this book to everyone as it is very entertaining and good to read.

Pretties by Scott Westerfeld (370 pages)

"What happens when perfection isn't good enough?"

Becoming pretty was all Tally ever dreamed of - all her old friends, including Shay and Peris, had all turned into a pretty, so what could possibly go wrong?Isn't it all supposed to go uphill from there - partying till daylight, creating mayhem and disaster, living in a high-tech society?

But no, something's wrong. Tally just can't seem to tug away the nausea of uneasiness and discomfort that's been following her since her very first day of becoming a pretty. Something's very, very wrong.
When a message from Tally's past arrives, she becomes curious and insecure, leaving her with an option - chase her past or live with the nagging sense of distress forever. Tally's always been the adventurous type, before and after becoming a pretty, so naturally, she decided to go on a journey.
Little does she know, however, that her little adventure will be the turning point of her life, as the specials aren't too keen on runaway pretties, and they'll do whatever it takes to keep the truth a secret, no matter what.
_.-*^*-._.-*^*-._.-*^*-._.-*^*-._.-*^*-._.-*^*-.
Personally, I loved "Pretties", as it is packed with adventure. The plot is clever and it has loads of twists and turns, encouraging the reader to keep reading. This book will keep you gasping and wondering all the way through!
Warning: Read its prequel, "Uglies", before attempting to read this book, as it will make no sense whatsoever.

On the apple tree (190 pages)

On the apple tree is written by Mira Robe.

Andy is a boy who didnt have any grandmothers because both of his grandmothers had passed away. Therefore, he was always jeolous with his friends who have grandmothers. Oneday, he got two grandmothers. In the beginning of the story, Andy imagined his grandmother on the apple tree. Then, his grandmother appeared so he imagined again that they go to the theme park, Africa, beach... etc. Andy called this grandmother as "grandmother on the apple tree" because Andy met her on the apple tree. In the middle of the story, one old woman moved next to Andy's house and Andy liked her because she was different to his grandmother on the apple tree and he thought her as his another grandmother. Therefore, at the end of the story, he got two grandmother.

When I read this book, I thought his book wouldn't be interesting but as the story goes towards the end, I liked it and I really enjoyed it. I liked the part when Andy and his grandmother go to the theme park and have fun because I haven't ridden any roller coasters with my grandmother and by reading this part, I could imagine going to the theme park with my grandmother and ride the roller coaster. :)

Another Me

This is an extract from the book:
"It was only as I was walking to the drama class that I remembered the girl I had bumped into and the green sweater just like mine. That was what had got Mrs Watt mixed up. She had seen the girl in the green sweater and thought it was me. That was the simple explanation. Wasn't it?"

This is a spooky thriller from the author Catherine MacPhall. It is about a girl named Fay, who finds out that she has a double, trying to take over her life. However, no one believes her. They all think she's mad. She has so many questions unanswered, and she wonders if she's just imagining it all. After some time, Fay thinks it all has stopped, and life has finally went back to normal. But that all changes when she meets this "double" face to face. It is generally believed that to see one's own double, is a portent of your own death. A sign that you are about to die.

This was a great book and I found some parts quite scary. I found myself afraid for the character Fay and hoping for her to survive. I also feel sympathy for her when she's in so much trouble and no one believes her. I recommend this book to everyone because I simply loved it!

Fame School

Fame School - Reach for the stars
This book was written by Cindy Jefferies. It's about a girl named Chloe, who loves to sing. She has always dreamt of becoming a popstar. So when she gets the chance to audition for a school for wannabe popstars, Chloe is determined to pass the interview and impress the judges with her singing. Over half the population of students at this school end up in showbussiness. If she gets in, it'll be like instant stardom!! But is her voice enough to get her this once in a life time chance? Or does she mess up her opportunity?

I think this book is ok. Some parts are really good and interesting. At first I found this book fascinating but after a few chapters it became quite boring. I like the beginning and the ending the most.

The Princess Diaries

The Prncess Diaries - 10 out of 10

This is the last book in the series and I love it! I really like happy endings where the main character finally gets what she deserves. In this book, you discover all the secrets and lies, as well as having all your questions answered. Is J.P the REAL love of Mia's life? Or does that all change when Michael Moscovitz returns from Japan? Does her dad win the political campaign? Will anyone publish Mia's secret book (Ransom My Heart) that she wrote under her fake name? Which college should she go to after she graduates?...

All these unanswered mysteries are revealed on the princess's 18th birthday. It was a bit obvious what will hapen to her in the end but the journey there was fantastic and exciting! I recommend this book to people who enjoy reading teenage fiction books.

Prom

Prom - by Laurie Halse Anderson
Prom is a night to remember, and it was a night Ashley will never forget.
Most teenagers dream about this night for months, maybe even years. But not Ashley, to her this is just another stupid school dance. She doesn't unerstand why girls spend so much money looking for the perfect dress or those perfect shoes. Why guys have to rent limos months before. Ashley just doesn't get it.

Unfortunately, the prom is then ruined all thanks to the school's math teacher, who stole the money. Ashley then finds herself planning a fun-filled evening for every kid at school. But it isn't so easy with such a low-budget.

I don't really like this book because it was quite boring and i could guess what was going to happen next most of the time. It is different than most books since it isn't a book about the popular kids or the book geeks. It's about normal kids.I personally don't find it that interesting.

The Mrs Marridge Project

The Mrs Marridge Project
This book was written by Pauline Fisk. It all starts when Elin and her family attend a funeral for a close friend. Half way through the ceremony, Elin realises lifes too short to waste time doing GCSEs! She wants to find Mr Right, and get married!! People say only brainless film stars get married young, and people like her wait until their 30s. But who's to say she wont die tomorrow? This is a great book about a young girl trying to find love in such a short time. It tells us about her adventure travelling to ireland and meeting a strange guy she picked up on the internet. I don't think that was very smart of her, but I admire her persistance to complete her project - the Mrs Marridge project.

Is Anybody there? : Seeing is believing

Is Anybody There? Seeing is believing
This is another fantastic novel written by Jean Ure. I have read many of her book in the past and i have enjoyed then all. This book's main plot is about a girl that goes missing, and the only one who knows what might have happened to her is a young psychic girl called Joanna (Jo). But are her visions correct or is she just remembering her frightening past? I like this book because it was very exciting and I enjoy reading mysteries.

The Princess Diaries

The Princess Diaries
Seventh Heaven & After Eight

I have just finished reading these two books from the Princess Diaries Series. The main character of this series is a girl called Mia also known as HRH Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo. After Mia finds out she's actually the Princess of Genovia, she doesn't think anything worse can possibly happen in her life. However, she is proven wrong when she causes the student council to go bankrupt (in Seventh Heaven) and when her prince decides to move to Japan, which is on the other side of the world (in After Eight)!!!! It's a great series with funny and sad parts that might make you laugh or cry. But to find out how Mia fixes her problems, and dicovers that being a princess isn't just fun and games, you should read the books! You'll find out that the life of a princess isn't so glamorous after all.

The Mediator 1:Love You Till Death

This book is about a girl who can see death people and she has to help them to do what they wanted to do before going to hell or heaven. Eventhough it's about death and stuff like that, it's not that scary but instead it's more about teenage love. The girl name is Susannah (Suzie), she is 16 years old and she lives with her mom and when her mom got a second marriage, she has to move to to Northern California from New York. When she moved into her new house she met a hot ghost named Jesse in her room but she doesn't like sharing a room with a guy. Moving to new school is already hard but with Suzie it's even harder because she has to deal with Heather. Heather is the most popular girl in school but she shot herself when Bryce Martine (Heather's ex boyfriend) dumped her and now she's a ghost as well. Except for that, she made a quite big impression by saving Bryce, threatened Debbie and got voted to be the class president. Later on, Suzie got so mad because Heather tried to hurt her everytime but the result is someone who's not involve getting hurt. Also everytime they fight, Jesse is the one who help Suzie from getting hurt. By this the relationship between them increased.

The part I like best is when Suzie sneak out of the house to go to school to do an exorcism. She had a really big fight with Heather and this part made me couldn't stop reading because I got really nervous to know who will win and what will happened to them both. The way that the author describe the scene help it to be so interesting. But some of the part because it don't go stright to the point which make it quite boring.

The Hunger Games - 374 pages (1 book)

Katniss is a 16-year-old girl who lives with her mother and sister in a poor and destitute district of Panem, the remains of what used to be USA. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called "The Hunger Games". The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. Katniss's sister is chosen this year. In order to save her sister, Katniss steps up and volunteers to fight. Will she survive?

This is an extremely good book which brings us a new sense of excitement. The beginning might be slow and boring, but as soon as The Games start, you definitely can't put your eyes away from the book. The different tactics of different opponents, varying from hiding or directly fighting, and the idea of The Games make the story very original.

Rating: 8/10

Dragon Rider - 523 pages (2 books)

Dragon Rider is a book about an adventure of a boy called Ben, a brownie called Sorrel and a dragon called Firedrake to fight against a golden dragon created to hunt dragons called Nettlebrand.

Although this book is quite fun to read (and to put you to sleep :P), I don't recommend it. I chose to read it because I saw that it was an internationally best selling book. However, when I read it, it was kind of disappointing because the storyline was childish, lame and too stereotypical. I could even predict what happened next, so there was not much surprise to me. It is quite boring, poorly written & plotted and the characters are poorly described. My rating: 4/10.

If only it were true - 240 pages (1 book)

If only it were true, written by Marc Levy, tells us a romance story between a human and a spirit.

Lauren goes into a severe coma after she has a car accident and her apartment, months later, is rented by a businessman called Arthur. One day, he finds her spirit in a closet and after realising the seriousness of her situation and that only he can help her, for only he can see her. They fall in love with each other and begin to race with time attempting to save her life and bring her spirit back to her body - without knowing that after doing so, she will forget everything that her spirit experienced, including him.

I think this book is romantic, humorous and exciting at the same time. It also teaches us how to cherish life and everyone we love through Arthur telling Lauren about his rough childhood - when he and his mother were very close together and suddenly, she left him alone in this world. There is not much to say about it, but if you're seeking a good, cute love story, this is it.

Eragon (504 pages)

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid (216 pages)

Diary Of a wimpy Kid is by far my best book series I have ever red, It is about a boy who lives a normal life in middle school but has to endure all these things that happen to a normal person, wether it is cutting your hair to getting a dog, he shows his wacky opinions throughout the book. The Book that i am blogging right now is the 4th installment in the series (Dog Days), and it is talking about his summer and going on trips. I like tis book because its funny and ridiculous al at the same time.

The Gift (494 pages)

The Gift is a book that i have recently blogged about but did not finish yet, the last part i got up to last time was the Guildsman's cottage, now that i have finished the book, i will tell you the rest of the story. So the girl (i forgot the name of) goes and escapes the the cottage with her friend (who i also forgot the name of). When she escapes, she finds out that her friend is a teacher working in a magic school and teaches her the hidden power that she possesses. I liked this book because it has a lot of adventures and twists with the girl and her mother (who had died when she was 8).

The Road - 307 pages ( 1 book )

"A work of such terrible beauty that you will struggle to look away. It will knock the breath from your lungs" - Tom Gatti, The Times

A father and his young son walk alone through destroyed America, moving slowly towards the coast. There is nothing on their way - except for ash on the wind and some rotten corpses pervaded throughout the post-apocalyptic landscape. They have nothing but a pistol to defend themselves, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food, and each other.

"Did you have any friends?
Yes. I did.
Lots of them?
Yes.
Do you remember them?
Yes. I remember them.
What happened to them?
They died.
All of them?
Yes. All of them.
Do you miss them?
Yes. I do.
Where are we going?
We're going south.
Okay."

This is a horrifying, tender and sad book that might rip your heart apart. The story passes on in a slow rhythm, yet successfully describes the terror of loneliness, despair as well as the little hope in the father and the son. It reflects on the worst and the best thing that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity as well as the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the total devastation. As soon as you open the book, you will be absorbed into a terrifying and cold nightmare which you will find hard to handle without the delicate warmth emitted by the love from the father to his son.

10/10.

I enjoyed reading One True Thing, becuase it has deep thought description about many ways of living. The writer has written it as a first person, so when you are reading the book, it feels like you are actually in the book. It is a fiction book, but there is a film on it. I would recommend this book and rate it as a 8/10.

Jane Eyre (502 pages) - 2 books

Jane Eyre is a famous and influential classic written by a well-known writer - Charlotte Bronte. It is about a poor orphan who grows up in a joyless childhood with the hatred of her tyrannous aunt. She is soon able to escape her gloomy fate and attends a boarding school. Here, although it is better, she has to endure, again, an inhumanely stern Mr. Brocklehurst, who labels her as a liar. Fortunately for her, after a calamitous academic, Mr. Brocklehurst is expelled and the living condition in the boarding school vastly ameliorates. She is also inspired by her teacher - Ms. Temple - a kind-hearted teacher. After graduating and working for the school for a while, she finds a work which she enjoys - a governess. This also when a new, exciting adventure begins.

I like this book very much. The characters are very realistic and are described in details. It reflects accurately the English society at that time - where women were treated unfairly and were leading a hard life. However, what makes Jane Eyre special is her bravery, perseverance and independence. From her, we can understand how to hope and overcome hard situations. Also, the plot is very logically structured and while some parts are romantic and humorous, some are very thrilling and exciting. The irony is also what makes it more fun to read. I would give it a 10/10.
